The service
What exactly is Stopingo?
An app that organises hitchhiking: it connects people heading the same way, chaining walking and several drivers when needed.
How is this different from ordinary carpooling?
Ordinary carpooling is booked in advance, and one car does the whole trip. With Stopingo everything is spontaneous: you leave when you want, and your journey can combine walking and several cars. Which opens up destinations no single car serves.
Do I have to book in advance?
No. You open the app when you set off, and the journey builds itself. If you prefer to plan ahead, you can schedule your departure.
Where does it work?
Everywhere in France, right now. As the app is still in development, access is by invitation for the time being. Write to us and we will send you yours as soon as we can.
On which devices?
On the web, on iPhone and Android, and even over WhatsApp. All four give access to the same service.
The price
How much does a trip cost?
The total amount is shown before you confirm, and it is exactly what will be charged. It matches your share of the driver's costs, plus the service price. The detail is on the “How it works” page.
When am I charged?
The moment you type the driver's code, as you get into the car. Never before.
And if the trip does not happen?
A trip that did not happen is not charged. Service fee included. It is as simple as that.
Safety
Are profiles verified?
Not in the sense of a checked identity document: that check is not in service yet, and we would rather say so than let you assume it. What does exist: every profile shows its shared trips and the reviews received on both sides, and the code handed over in person before you get in makes sure you are getting into the right car.
How do I know I am getting into the right car?
Before you get in, the driver shows you a four-digit code that you type into the app. Until it is validated, nothing starts. Neither the trip nor the payment.
Can someone follow my journey?
Yes, if you want: someone close to you can follow your position live during the trip, without installing anything.
What if something goes wrong?
During the trip, the safety screen gives one-gesture access to emergency services and your trusted contacts. Any trip can also be reported, and every report is read by someone on our team.
Can I choose who I travel with?
Yes, on both sides: your preferences, set in advance, decide who is offered to you, and the other person's profile is always visible before you accept.
Driving
Do I have to make a detour, or wait for someone?
No. The passenger walks to your route and waits somewhere easy for you to stop; if they are not there when you pass, you carry on, with no penalty.
Do I need a special status to drive?
No, no licence is needed. The service works within the cost-sharing framework between private individuals, provided for by law.
When do I get my share?
Your share is fixed as soon as the passenger gets in and types your code. Payouts are then bundled and transferred once a month, with no commission taken.
Can I be a driver sometimes and a passenger other times?
Of course. The same account carries both, and you switch between them in one gesture from the app's home screen.
Do I have to use Stopingo as my sat-nav?
No. Built-in navigation is there if you want it, but eco mode keeps only the ridesharing and runs quietly alongside your usual sat-nav, using very little battery and data.
