How it works

Two sides, one journey

Stopingo continuously connects two things: the trips drivers are already making, and the people who want to get somewhere. Here is how the system works, cog by cog.

The system, in four cogs

Drivers publish their trip

Destination and free seats, in a few seconds, by hand or by voice. At any moment the app therefore knows which cars are moving, where they are going, and how many seats are left. That is the network: nothing is chartered, everything is already on the road.

The app puts the journey together

When a passenger enters their destination, it is matched against every trip under way. Is a driver already going their way? Direct trip. If not, the app adds the walk to the nearest road that gets them further, and strings together as many cars as it takes. Duration, walking and price are shown before you confirm.

Everyone sees, everyone decides

The driver sees who is waiting along their route. Profile, reviews, the kilometres they would share. The passenger sees who is driving. Preferences set beforehand filter the offers on both sides, and turning one down costs nothing, to anyone.

The code sets everything off

When they meet, the driver shows a four-digit code and the passenger types it in. That is the proof the two really found each other: the trip, the payment and the tracking all start at that precise moment. Never before.

And what each side gets out of it day to day: For passengers · For drivers

The principle that changes everything

It is the passenger who walks to the route

No imposed stops, nothing installed: if no driver is going your way, you simply walk to the nearest road where someone can get you further.

There, you pick your spot: open, visible from a distance, where a car can pull in for a few seconds without blocking anyone or braking hard. The driver, for their part, knows who is waiting and where. Everything old-fashioned hitchhiking left to chance.

  • Always on the driver's way, never a detour
  • A spot you choose yourself, for visibility and a safe stop
  • Within walking distance, the app guides you to the road

The price, in full transparency

The total amount, shown before you confirm

The amount you see before confirming is exactly what will be charged. It is made of two things: the driver's share of the costs, capped by law, and the Stopingo service price.

It is this cost-sharing framework that lets anyone drive without a special status, without a licence and without paperwork.

If you are a passenger

You are charged the moment you type the code, as you get into the car. Never before.

And a trip that did not happen is never charged, service fee included.

If you are a driver

Your share is fixed as soon as the passenger gets in: nothing to ask for, nothing to chase.

Payouts are bundled and transferred once a month, with no commission taken.

The two questions we always get

“And what if nobody is there?”

You can set off anyway. Unlike a booking, nothing is fixed: the search carries on while you walk, and a driver who turns up along the way either takes you or brings you closer to your destination.

“And what if something goes wrong?”

A driver who does not turn up does not block you: your request stays live and you carry on. For everything else (reporting, emergencies, tracking by someone close) see the page Trust and safety.

One service, four channels

Even without installing anything

Stopingo works on the web, on iOS and Android, and over WhatsApp too: asking for a trip, confirming, getting your code, all of it can happen through plain messages. Handy when the phone has no space left, or is not so young any more.
